Gift of rare trove reflects donor's "passion to conserve and share humanity’s collective memory"
A visionary businessman, humanitarian, and engaged citizen who chairs Herrick Entertainment, a film and theatrical production company, Norton Herrick knows all too well the importance of motion pictures in capturing and preserving history and culture. That's why he donated a collection of more than 3,500 rare films and television programs to the University of Miami's School of Communication, ensuring that audiences of movie lovers and scholars alike will have access to the cinematic treasures of yesteryear and today.

February 09, 2012 - The Norton Herrick Center for Motion Picture Studies at the University of Miami School of Communication presents a special lecture on forgotten, controversial films with film historian Eric Schaefer, author of "'Bold! Daring! Shocking! True!': A History of Exploitation Films, 1919-1959" at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, February 16, 20121, at UM's Bill Cosford Cinema. The discussion is free and open to all.

Norton Herrick, chairman of the Herrick Co., a real estate and investment firm, and Herrick Entertainment, both in Boca Raton, made the list at No. 32. A generous gift from the Norton and Elayne Herrick Family will support the ongoing research of world-renowned cancer researcher, Professor Howard Cedar, at The Hebrew University's Faculty of Medicine. The School of Communication named the Norton Herrick Center for Motion Picture Studies at the University of Miami on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011.
The new Herrick Center will provide support for motion picture research, facilitate the study and teaching of film at UM and enrich the intellectual and cultural life of the University and the South Florida community through lectures, conferences, seminars and workshops, and through screenings at the Bill Cosford Cinema, the University's on-campus state of-the art theater.
